Death records to improve

THE accuracy of death certificates is set to improve under a Scottish Government scheme.

Newly-appointed medical reviewers will randomly select and investigate certificates.

It is hoped this will weed out mistakes and oversights and drive up standards.

MSP Christine Grahame, convener of the health and sport committee, said: "It is essential that the public has confidence in the system, both in terms of accurately recording public health data and identifying possible cases of medical negligence or criminal activity."
