Dead woman in ‘God letter’

A YOUNG woman who was found dead just days after a man who sexually abused her was sent to prison wrote a “letter to God” pleading for help.

Rachel Crawford, 22, was discovered on her bedroom floor in Craigour, Edinburgh, on Thursday.

Her family believe Miss Crawford, who suffered from epilepsy, may have suffered a seizure.

But her mother, Sandra Turpin, said she held her abuser partly responsible for her daughter’s death.

In January, John Smart, 48, was sentenced to eight years in jail for abusing three children – two boys and Miss Crawford – between 1987 and 2002.

Mrs Turpin said her daughter had forgiven Smart, but wanted him to own up to what he had done. A postmortem was due to take place today.
