Dead body identified as resident

A Pensioner who died in the grounds of a sheltered housing complex in Edinburgh was a resident there, it has been confirmed.

Police are currently investigating the death of the 67-year-old man, who lived in a Viewpoint Housing Association property in Gillespie Crescent.

The man, who is believed to have used a mobility scooter, is reported to have been a regular at local pub The Auld Toll Bar.

A spokesperson for Viewpoint said: “A 67-year-old tenant, who was an independent gentleman, sadly passed away in the grounds of the complex after returning late Saturday night.

“He died before he could make it into the building or his flat. The police are investigating the incident.”

A Lothian and Borders police spokesman said: “Inquiries are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the death, which is currently being treated as unexplained.”
