Dawe warns of ‘difficult’ budget decisions

City leader Jenny Dawe has warned the Capital will continue to face budget “challenges” despite receiving a funding boost from the Scottish Government.

The Local Government Financial Settlement, announced earlier this month by Finance Secretary John Swinney, provided £22 million extra to the city council in revenue funding.

The boost came after the government agreed councils should receive no less than 85 per cent of the average per head of population grant for Scotland.

In her monthly leader’s report, Cllr Dawe said: “While this funding will ensure some stability in next year’s revenue budget, significant budgetary challenges requiring difficult decisions nonetheless remain.

“In addition, services need to ensure those savings previously approved in February 2011 are delivered.”
