Darren Day in court over driving incident

ENTERTAINER, Darren Day, appeared in Edinburgh Sheriff Court today and maintained his not guilty plea to charges following an alleged incident last month in Manor Place.

The 41-year old from Cudworth in Yorkshire, was appearing in the Queen musical "We Will Rock You" at the city's Playhouse Theatre when he was arrested in the early hours of 18 December after his Mercedes was involved in a collision with a lamp post.

After being in Drylaw Police Station, he appeared in the Sheriff Court and pleaded not guilty to driving without due care and attention; failing to stop after an accident; failing to report the accident; and a drink driving charge in that it is alleged he had 58 microgrammes of alcohol in his breath when the legal limit is 35. He also denied that he failed to provide two specimens at Drylaw Police Station and to being in possession of an offensive weapon, a kubotan.

Fiscal Depute, Neil Allan, said The Crown had no objections to this and the hearing was set for 20 January.
