Danny Alexander makes case for £1bn cuts

Treasury chief secretary Danny Alexander will set out the UK Government's case for cutting Scotland's budget by about £1 billion in front of MSPs at Holyrood today.

The Liberal Democrat MSP for Inverness, Nairn, Badenoch and Strathspey is appearing before parliament's finance committee to discuss the impact of the recent Comprehensive Spending Review. It will see Scottish spending fall by 10 per cent over four years., with the SNP claiming this will lead to a drop of 1.2bn next year. The coalition says the figure is 900 million.
