Dance to welcome the Games to Scotland

AN EVENT to mark the handover of the Commonwealth Games to Glasgow is to take place tomorrow - in Edinburgh.

Around 90 school children from across the Capital will perform a special 'sport dance' in Festival Square to celebrate the Delhi Commonwealth Games Handover Ceremony, which will be showing at the same time on the Big Screen.

The Edinburgh event is part of EventScotland's Games For Scotland initiative, designed to create a sense of pride about the Games coming to the country in 2014.

The children from Stenhouse, Prestonfield and Royal Mile Primary Schools have been training with instructors from Dance Base, the national centre for dance, to prepare for their performance, which will be introduced by culture minister Fiona Hyslop.

She said: "Already the Games are inspiring Scots to get involved and to get active."

Councillor Deidre Brock, the city's culture and leisure leader, said: "We're committed to inspiring residents of all ages to discover the benefits of a healthy active lifestyle."
