Dairy godmother delivers free milk in city

Hundreds of Capital households this morning awoke to free milk delivered in secret by farmers campaigning for fairer prices.

Scotland’s “Dairy Godmother” delivered a free pint of the white stuff to 300 homes in Edinburgh early today.

The National Farmers Union Scotland said the secret milk-round initiative was a thank-you from dairy farmers to Scottish consumers for their support over the years.

It is hoped that the gesture will encourage consumers to contact supermarkets and ask them to deliver a fair deal and price to Scottish dairy farmers.

An NFUS spokesman said: “We believe supermarkets can easily deliver a fairer share of the substantial profits they are making from dairy products without the consumer having to pay any more.”
