Dad attack man facing long jail term

A man who repeatedly punched his father to the head then left him in his flat with the gas appliances turned on has been told he faces a lengthy jail term.

Wayne Watson was yesterday found guilty of attempting to murder his dad John Watson, 60, on 1 January this year.

Watson was also convicted of acting culpably and recklessly by turning on gas at Mr Watson's home at Robertson Avenue, Edinburgh, exposing him to the effects and creating danger to the health and safety of residents there.

The 33-year-old had denied the allegations made against him.

Mr Watson told the court an argument had broken out between him and his son over the funeral for the grandfather of the accused, who had passed away the previous month.

Sentence was deferred until later this month.
