Cyclists saddle up for ride round country

A GROUP of cyclists who met at a Capital-based bike club are to embark on a 1070-mile charity ride around Scotland.

The 12 cyclists, who know each other through Hervelo Cycling Club, will set off from Holyrood car park on July 7.

They are performing the 15-day expedition to raise £10,000 for Marie Curie and Edinburgh-based children’s cancer charity CCLASP.

Trish Kenny, one of the participants, said: “We all go out cycling regularly, and we wanted to do something for a few days.

“Then we thought why don’t we do something big and raise money.

“We’ve all been affected by friends and family who have lost their lives because of cancer.

“We’re hoping people will meet us at the Forth Road Bridge on the way back and cycle back to Edinburgh to help us celebrate.”

The group is planning to stay in hostels on the trip, which was organised by Laura Cave.

They are expected to arrive at the Forth Road Bridge at 3pm on July 21.
