Cyclist misses prestigious race after theft

AN up-and-coming cyclist had to forfeit the most prestigious race of the year after his £4000 bike was stolen in Gorgie.

Bruce Wallace, 23, was left "gutted" when thieves broke into his car last Wednesday night to pinch the Kuota racer from the back seat just two days ahead of the Scottish Criterium Championships.

Mr Wallace, a former Scottish junior cycling champion, said the theft had thrown his racing season into doubt.

He said: "It's an important race for me.

"I didn't know what to do (about the forthcoming races] because it takes a while to set up a bike.

"I have managed to borrow a bike but don't know how I will fare."
