Cyclist Ian to hit the hills in dad's memory

A DAD-of-three has embarked upon a 900-mile cycle around Scotland to raise money for the stroke charity that looked after his late father.

Ian Marr's father Kenneth died in 2007 after suffering a stroke five years previously.

The Wolfson Microelectronics worker set off on Saturday to cycle across Scotland to Oban, up to Cape Wrath, through Inverness, and back to the Capital in 12 days, hoping to raise around 2,000 for The Stroke Association and support agency Maggie's.

Along the way the 50-year-old, from Portobello, will cover 80,000 feet of ascents and around 80 miles every day.

He said: "I met a lot of families in my situation when my dad was ill and I'm hoping to raise money for people like them."

He added: "I've been cycling the 15 miles to work every day in preparation, although I didn't realise there were so many hills along the way."
