Cyclist badly hurt in crash

A FEMALE cyclist is in intensive care after a collision with a van last night.

The 49-year-old and the driver of the Fiat Ducato van were both travelling eastbound in Drumshoreland Road, Pumpherston at around 6pm.

Police said that the woman was knocked on to the bonnet and windscreen of the van before falling on to the road as a result of the collision.

Paramedics attended and took her to the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary, where she is being treated for head and chest injuries. Her condition is described as serious.

The road was closed for three hours while police carried out an accident investigation.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident.
