Cutting back for charity as nurse shaves head

A NURSE has shaved her head after hitting a milestone in a £9000 fundraising drive.

Sue Melrose, a transplant nurse at the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary, vowed to remove her locks once she'd raised a third of the total needed for her and two colleagues to take part in a Marie Curie trek across the Grand Canyon.

And she said the obligation helped her reach her own 1000 mark.

"People seemed awfully keen to see my hair come off," she said.

She will be accompanied in October by Gillian MacDonald and Amanda Marshall, who also need to raise 3000 each.

The trio plan to hold various fundraising events ahead of their departure, which will see the 25-strong team partake in waterfall jumping and swimming in the Colorado River.
