Cruelty-free bid on table

MEMBERS of the city council's finance committee are to decide whether the authority adopts a "cruelty-free" purchasing policy.

A motion by Green councillor Steve Burgess has been passed to next week's committee meeting for a decision.

Cllr Burgess said that the councils of Sheffield and Enfield had both adopted the policy, which means that only cleaning products that are not tested on animals are used. He has called for the city council to follow suit.

In his motion, he said: "Council notes that councils including Sheffield and Enfield have adopted a cruelty-free purchasing policy.

"Council agrees to adopt a new cruelty-free purchasing policy which only uses cleaning products which are not tested on animals."
