Crowds watch end of Riding on Royal Mile

THE 2012 Riding of the Marches has been hailed a success after thousands gathered to watch this year’s event.

Around 2000 spectators saw 280 riders and their horses complete the route from Craigmillar Castle in the south of Edinburgh to the Royal Mile yesterday afternoon.

Police officers said the event had gone “smoothly” despite the large crowd, with only a few riders requiring medical assistance after falling from their horses.
