Crocodile Ali goes walkabout

GERMAN police have seized a 10ft-long crocodile called Ali, after the 65-year-old reptile gave his minders the slip and went roaming around Frankfurt.

Police in Germany's financial capital said yesterday they apprehended the crocodile after a shocked driver spotted him apparently lounging by the side of the road.

Ali had been in Frankfurt to take part in a reptile show, but broke out of his container.

"Evidently, the container was not shut properly, so Ali took the chance to explore the city by himself," police said.
