Crisis-hit ski centre set for a cheer lift

MIDLOTHIAN Council hopes the recent coverage of cash problems at the troubled Midlothian Ski Centre will lead to a rise in visitor numbers this weekend.

Bosses have drafted in extra staff to cope with the expected demand caused by speculation centre may be on the brink of closure in the face of a 529,000 deficit.

The centre was already expecting a busy weekend with promotions launched to coincide with the Winter Olympics, but bosses have predicted the widespread support it has received since its cash problems became public will push numbers up further.

A Facebook campaign to keep the centre open has now reached more 17,000 members.

Midlothian Council is currently reviewing the options for making the centre financially viable.
