Crieff man reunited with £2500 praises honesty

A CRIEFF businessman has praised the honesty of a local resident and shop staff after being reunited with £2500 he had accidentally left in a shopping basket in a busy supermarket in the town.

The businessman, who does not wish to be identified, had earlier exchanged the cash from Euros at Crieff Post Office before going shopping at the Town Green supermarket in the Perthshire burgh

A spokeswoman for the Tayside Division of Police Scotland explained: “After paying for his purchases, he accidentally left the remainder of his money in an envelope in the shopping basket. Fortunately the next customer to use the basket immediately handed the envelope to staff who contacted local police who were quickly able to trace the man and reunite him with his lost money.”

She added: “The man, who did not wish to be named, has rewarded the honest finders.”

The businessman said in a statement released by the force: ‘’Scotland must be the only place left on Earth these days where you can lose that sort of money and expect to see it again.’’
