Cricket in the Square aims to bowl over city youngsters

Cricket Scotland is transforming Festival Square into Edinburgh’s answer to Lord’s this week with passers-by being offered the chance to test their skills at the crease.

Partner Cricket Factory, which runs cricket roadshows, will bring the necessary equipment to the Lothian Road site in a bid to encourage more children and young people to take up Scotland’s fastest growing participation sport.

Cricket Factory’s Pete Gray said: “This is a unique opportunity to demonstrate the sport to young people and families in the city and to support Cricket Scotland in growing the game.”

Scotland cricket captain Gordon Drummond, along with players from Scotland’s senior and junior sides, are also due to attend the two-day showcase while a coaching team will be running various activities and inviting everyone to try their hand.

ICC president, Alan Issac, will supervise activities this Tuesday for a chance to witness first-hand the potential of budding players.

The Festival Square cricket event will run on Monday and Tuesday from 10am to 5pm.
