Crews fight farm blaze

MORE than 30 firefighters battled a massive blaze at a farm in Balerno overnight.

The fire, which broke out in a farm building on Harlaw Farm at around 6pm, was tackled from outside the building due to fierce flames and a number of gas cylinders inside.

This morning firefighters were continuing to cool the cylinders to prevent an explosion.

Residents in nearby properties were evacuated from their homes, although it is thought that they have now been allowed to return.

Nobody was inside the building at the time. The cause of the fire is not yet known.

A total of 32 firefighters and eight fire appliances attended.
