Crematorium opened with debut service

A NEW crematorium has been officially opened with a service of dedication by Reverend Norman MacRae, moderator of the West Lothian Presbytery.

Set in Cousland Wood in Livingston, the debut service at West Lothian Crematorium hosted both religious and secular leaders reflecting the diverse ideologies existing in the community. More than 100 guests turned out for the occasion with county Provost councillor Tom Kerr drawing the ceremony to close.

Guests were welcomed to the service with a lament by Pipe Major Ian Bowden. He provided background music as they later toured the premises.

"It seems a long time since we were first selected by West Lothian Council to provide this important community service but we hope that everyone will agree that the ultimate facilities are a great asset to the area," said Richard Evans, managing director of Westerleigh Group who operate the crematorium.

"We believe that we will be able to offer an improved experience for the bereaved by offering a modern, sensitively designed and accessible crematorium in West Lothian."
