Another cyclist, George Dalgity, died after being knocked down by McCourt in 1985.

The Crown appealed against the “unduly lenient” sentence and a hearing was planned for August 6 – however, it will now take place at the Appeal Court on August 13.

Prosecutors lodged the appeal after a campaign, led by the Fyfe family and pressure group Cyclists’ Touring Club, saw more than 6000 write in to urge action.
