Craig Whyte changes lawyers in director ban case

Former Rangers owner Craig Whyte has parted company with his lawyers as battles a ban from becoming a company director.

Solicitor advocate John Gildea told a judge at the Court of Session in Edinburgh that they no longer acted for him and sought leave to withdraw.

David Thomson, counsel for the Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills, are seeking the action against Whyte and said “skeletal answers” had been lodged as defences to the case and steps would be taken to find out if he intended to proceed with his opposition to the move.

Lord Tyre said that after a lapse of time the matter could be brought back before the court.

The legal move against Mr Whyte (43) of Monaco could see him facing a disqualification from holding company directorships for up to 15 years.

The venture capitalist, who has held a number of business interests, took over the Ibrox club in 2011 when he bought the controlling interest in Rangers from majority shareholder Sir David Murray for pounds one.

The club was plunged into administration the following year after moves at the Court of Session and later went into liquidation before a consortium led by Charles Green was able to buy out the business.
