Crackdown on stolen goods

A CRACKDOWN is being launched on stolen goods hawked to Cash Converter outlets in Edinburgh.

Backed by police, the retailer requires two forms of identification from customers selling goods, who also must have their photograph taken.

All mobile phones supplied will be vetted by the Checkmend system, allowing stores to check whether the item has been reported stolen to police or whether it has been blocked.

The store will also be notified within 30 days following the initial check if the item is reported as stolen.
