Court victory for Hearts legend Mackay

HEARTS legend Dave Mackay has won a legal tussle with the makers of the film The Damned United.

The biopic, based on the book by novelist David Peace, chronicles Brian Clough's ill-fated 44-day stint as the manager of Leeds United in 1974.

The movie portrays Mackay mounting a players revolt in a bid to get Clough reinstated as manager of Derby County in 1973.

However, Mackay was not at Derby at the time, having left to become player-manager of Swindon Town in 1971.

Mackay, 75, who played in the legendary Hearts side that won all three domestic titles between 1956-59, said: "They twisted it. I would never have done anything that was disloyal. I wasn't even at Derby at that time."
