Court told of RBS glue protest

THREE protesters glued themselves to an Edinburgh bank during a protest which caused the branch to close, a court heard yesterday.

Dr Giovanna Speciale, 38, and Tim Gee, 25, from London, and Cara Whelan, 34, from Wales are accused of gluing themselves to each other and the entrance door of the RBS in Edinburgh's Nicolson Street. The three climate change protesters deny placing the public in a state of fear and alarm and committing a breach of the peace. The offence is alleged to have happened on 23 August last year.

Bank manager Kerry Skirving, 27, said a colleague had asked the trio at the door to move to allow a delivery access. She said: "They refused to move and started explaining why they were here."

The trial at Edinburgh Sheriff Court was continued until next month.
