Court told how teenager saw sister's corpse

A TEARFUL teenager has described how she was shown the corpse of her dead sister - by the man accused of murdering her and burning her body.

The High Court in Edinburgh heard that Laura Anne Nelson, 17, knew the body was her sister, Zoe, because of a Rangers tattoo.

Sobbing Laura Anne, now 17, was protected by a screen from seeing alleged killer Robert Bayne as she gave her evidence to the court.

The trial has heard how the charred remains of Zoe Nelson, 17, a mechanics student at Motherwell College, were found on 23 May at a spot on the outskirts of Wishaw, Lanarkshire, known locally as Monkey Hill.

The jury also heard how Laura Anne claimed in statements to police that Bayne, 21, had hit her sister with his hands, burned her with petrol, and threatened she would get "the same as Zoe" if she told what he had done.

Earlier that Sunday, Laura Anne was taken to Monkey Hill by Bayne, the trial heard.

Bayne, 21, denies murder.
