Court extends paedophile's jail sentence

A SEX offender who was released from prison after serving a five-year sentence for indecent assault has been given a further 16 months for failing to inform the police of his whereabouts.

Anthony Shek was sentenced to five years at the High Court in Edinburgh in 1998 for an indecent assault on a 12-year-old girl in West Lothian and was placed on the sex offenders' register.

The 26-year-old failed to keep police informed of his whereabouts and was yesterday sentenced having previously pleaded guilty to failing to register with the police between 20 June, 2009, and 13 January, 2010.

Defence solicitor, Graeme Clark, said that in June 2009, Shek had been getting trouble from "other persons" who were trying to force him to take part in other offences and he was now serving time for offences involving these people.
