The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh this morning arrived at Chippenham Station and were received by the Lord-Lieutenant of Wiltshire (Lt Gen Sir Maurice Johnston), the Lord Talbot of Malahide (Vice Lord-Lieutenant) and the Mayor of Chippenham (Councillor Mrs Barbara Dawson). She drove to Calne Town Hall and was received by the Mayor of Calne (Councillor Mrs Elizabeth Watkins), who briefed her on the regeneration of Calne.

Her Majesty, escorted by the Mayor of Calne, walked to the new Library in the Strand and, having been received by Ms Paul-ine Dyer (Head of Libraries and Heritage, Wiltshire County Council), she officially opened the new Library building.

Her Majesty this afternoon visited John Bentley School, Calne, to commemorate the School’s designation as a Language College, and was received by the Chair of Governors (Mr Alan Carter) and Mrs Anne Burrell (Head Teacher).

The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh drove to the Town Hall, Malmesbury, and were entertained to Lunch this afternoon by the Mayor of Malmesbury (Councillor John Bowen).

Her Majesty and His Royal Highness later walked to Malmesbury Abbey and were received by the Vicar (the Reverend David Littlefair) before attending a short Service of Celebration. Afterwards, they visited Dyson Appliances, Tetbury Hill, Malmesbury, and were received by Mr James Dyson (Chairman).

The Duke of Edinburgh this morning visited Wiltshire College, Cocklebury Road, Chippenham, Wiltshire. Afterwards, he opened Abbeyfield School, Stanley Lane, Chippenham. He later visited Chippenham Heritage Centre, Chippenham.

The Prince of Wales, on behalf of The Queen, held an Investiture at Buckingham Palace this morning.

ST JAMES’S PALACE

7 December

The Prince of Wales this afternoon visited St. Martin-in-the-Fields, London. This evening, he attended a reception for Christie’s Against Cancer in the Painted Hall at Chatsworth House, Derbyshire.
