Courier jailed for three years for role in £25,000 drug deal

A DRUGS courier involved in a £25,000 heroin deal that lasted less than a second has been jailed for three years.

Peter Mullen was snared after police watched him hand over a package to another man in Edinburgh's Crewe Road North last February 10.

The 40-year-old glazier was back in the dock yesterday after earlier admitting to being concerned in the supply of the Class A drug.

Judge Lord Kinclaven told Mullen at the High Court in Glasgow that the jail term would have been four years but for his guilty plea.

He added: "Couriers still require to bear their share of responsibility in what is an essential role in the drugs trade."

Mullen gave a thumbs-up to a woman in the public gallery as he was led downstairs to the cells.
