Councillor is criticised over care debate

CAPITAL housing leader Paul Edie has been criticised for failing to contribute to a discussion on the city council's botched re-tendering of care and support services.

Council chief executive Tom Aitchison unveiled his report on the re-tendering of care for nearly 800 of the city's most vulnerable people.

The project was dramatically halted six months ago and Mr Aitchison's damning 53-page "lessons learnt" report found 27 separate flaws.

Councillors discussed the report at a meeting of the high-power policy and strategy committee of the council. But there was no word from Cllr Edie, who sits on the committee.

Councillor Andrew Burns, leader of the Labour group on the council, said: "I am extremely disappointed that the convener refused to even speak during this debate.

"This was an issue which affected some of the most vulnerable people in our society, and they deserve an apology. Once again Cllr Edie treated these people with contempt."
