Councillor calls for ERI traffic report

AN URGENT report should be drawn up to address major traffic problems next to the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary, according to a local councillor.

Labour councillor Norma Hart, who represents the Liberton/Gilmerton ward, said that there have been significant traffic problems in the Craigour area since the new ERI was opened.

And she pointed out that a traffic impact assessment relating to the new building in 2001 pledged to continue to monitor the parking situation.

Cllr Hart has now lodged a motion for a full council meeting later this week calling for a report on what can be done.

In the motion, she said: "Council calls for a further report on the Craigour area of the city outlining solutions to the parking issues for residents, to include the possibility of the use of restricted hours localised parking regulations."

NHS Lothian is currently planning a new 1100 parking area at the ERI, on farmland on part of the BioQuarter.
