Council told to keep swimming centre revamp out of slow lane

COUNCILLORS today urged the city council to ensure there are no further delays to the revamp of the Warrender Swim Centre.

The council has confirmed the Thirlestane Road pool will be shut for at least three more months.

It closed in November so repairs could be made to a roof from where a shard of glass fell.

European procurement legislation has been blamed for not carrying out repairs more quickly. A tendering exercise had to be carried out, meaning it will take a further 12-15 weeks to complete.

Labour culture and leisure spokesman Councillor Paul Godzik, whose ward includes the centre, said: "It's frustrating that this popular local swimming pool remains closed to the public.

"I sincerely hope there will be no further delays and that the work will be completed ahead of schedule."
