Council to press ahead with new school amid park row

CITY leaders have vowed to press ahead with plans to build a new school on Portobello Park, despite not being able to pledge specific new open space for the area.

When the plans to build a new Portobello High were finalised in 2006, it was agreed that the open space that was being lost would be replaced elsewhere in the city.

But proposals were passed yesterday without a guarantee over the space. The council said the issue would be considered by the Portobello and Craigmillar Neighbourhood Partnership, with no funding met by the school budget.
