Council reveals shake-up of museum management staff

A SHAKE-UP of management positions in the Capital's museums and galleries has been ordered.

A new report for next week's meeting of the city council's culture and leisure committee says that the seven "building manager" roles, which report directly to the museums manager, will be replaced with "function-based" instead of "building-based" roles.

It also details that a "small group of senior managers" will develop an overall review of the city's 13 museums and galleries.

Jim Inch, director of the city council's corporate services department, said: "The principal aim of the restructure is to ensure the service is maintained and developed efficiently by addressing current weaknesses and under-capacity in areas of need - curatorial, learning and access, technical support and opportunities for income generation.

"The new interim restructure will also minimise unnecessary management layers and improve cross-service working."
