Council plan library grab

A LEADING councillor has accused his own authority of “corporate theft” over controversial proposals to transfer a local library from a historic Common Good Fund .

Bob Spink, an independent councillor for Arbroath, will challenge Angus Council’s plans to take over the ownership of the library, gifted to the town by a former Provost, as part a major review of the Common Good Funds in the area.

Arbroath Library was gifted to the town in 1898 by David Corsar, a leading local industrialist, but the council may decide at a meeting today take direct control of the building, valued at £836,000.
