Council chiefs urged to answer call of nature

THE city council should look at new ways of managing local nature reserves, according to a city councillor.

Conservative councillor Gordon Buchan has called for a report detailing how local nature reserves can be further protected from development pressures in the planning system.

He also wants council officials to examine whether transfer of ownership from the council to "properly constituted 'friends' groups or charitable trusts" would protect the areas further.

His motion will be debated at a meeting of the full council on Thursday.
