Council chiefs reported over alleged cash irregularities

TWO local politicians have been reported to the procurator fiscal following a police investigation in Aberdeen into alleged financial irregularities.

Councillor Scott Cassie, 60, was suspended from his post as deputy leader of the Lib Dem Group on Aberdeen City Council last July.

The move was triggered, pending the outcome of a Grampian Police investigation into allegations of financial irregularities at Garthdee Community Council.

Councillor Cassie's wife, Moira, 58, resigned her post as chairwoman of the community council shortly before her husband's suspension.

Mr Cassie, who was a former convener of the authority's planning committee, quit the Liberal Democrat Party last August but has continued in his role as an Independent councillor representing the Airyhall, Broomhill and Garthdee ward.

Police sources have confirmed that the two people involved are Councillor Cassie and his wife Moira who have both vigorously denied any wrong doing.

No-one has been charged in connection with the police investigation.
