Corstorphine expects a fair turnout

Now more than 20 years old, the biennial event first ran in 1980s and has been growing in popularity ever since.

Hundreds of people are taking part in the fair, which is being opened by former Edinburgh West MP John Barrett.

More than 100 fundraising stalls will feature, along with entertainers, local groups, the army and the fire brigade.

There will also be a classic car display, as well as a battle of the bands, and a demonstration from the Mugen Taiko Dojo Drummers.

Organiser Ewan Irvine said the day would also include an appearance from the Zumba Boys, fitness instructors who use an exercise routine based on Latin dance.

He said: "We've got lots of events planned, and it should be a really good day. There will be lots of children's groups, as well as bands, drummers and the highly popular Zumba Boys.

"We're just hoping we will get some good weather

"We really have something for the very young to the very old and we are proud to be Edinburgh's largest community-run event."

There are also set to be fundraising stalls from organisations including the Scouts, Radio Lollipop and the Rotary Club. Mediums will be on hand to give psychic readings, while there will also be a stall revealing the legends and ghost stories of Corstorphine.

The fair will be opened after a procession from the pipes and drums of Craigmount Pipe Band and the newly unveiled banner for Corstorphine by the Corstorphine Trust.

Mr Barrett, the area's MP from 2001 until 2010, said: "I was a community councillor 28 years ago when the idea for the fair first started. It has grown through that period and is now the biggest community event in Scotland.

"I was delighted when they asked me to open it. It's a brilliant event, which brings together lots of different organisations and it's now well and truly at the heart of the Corstorphine community."

The fair, which runs from 11am to 4pm on Saturday, takes place in St Margaret's Park.
