Cop rides to charity's aid

A MOUNTED police officer who swapped horsepower for pedal power on a fundraising cycle trip has raised £6,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Edinburgh-based PC Tom Dunnigan launched the charity fundraiser to cycle from John O'Groats to Land's End after his family was hit by tragedy.

The 38-year-old learned last summer that his sister had breast cancer. Just two weeks later she had to undergo a mastectomy. Only a week later, her husband was diagnosed with lymphoma. The officer's father, Frank, died 15 years ago after a five-year battle with the disease.
