Controversial army chief to lead prayers

CONTROVERSIAL former army chief General Sir Richard Dannatt is to be guest speaker at a religious event in Edinburgh.

He will address business leaders and other guests at Scotland's annual National Prayer Breakfast at the Hilton Grosvenor Hotel at Haymarket on Wednesday.

Sir Richard spent three years as Chief of the General Staff, during which he repeatedly called for better pay and conditions for soldiers. He retired in August last year, then revealed he was to become an adviser to the Conservative Party.

Sir Richard will also take part in an "Evening of Reflection, Testimony and Prayer for HM Forces" to be held at the Faith Mission centre, 548 Gilmerton Road, at 7.30pm on Tuesday.
