Constable Gary is force's top new cop

A CONSTABLE has been named Lothian and Borders Police Probationer of the Year 2010 after being hailed for his "outstanding energy and commitment".

Pc Gary Wood, who is based at Dalkeith police station, received the award from Chief Constable David Strang at a ceremony held at Fettes HQ.

The 34-year-old joined the force in September 2008.

Mr Strang said: "All of our officers are committed to protecting the communities in which they serve, and deliver a consistently high standard of service to the public.

"Gary has shown outstanding energy and commitment since he joined the force, displaying exemplary standards of professionalism."

Chief Superintendent Mark Williams, divisional commander for E Division, said: "As a local lad, Gary has a commitment to the community he serves, and this is evident in the drive and determination he displays."
