Conman collected window cleaner fees

POLICE are hunting a conman who duped four people into giving him money by pretending to collect for their window cleaner.

The fraudster, who has targeted homes in Parkhead, Chesser and Redhall in recent days, managed to convince a handful of residents he was taking payment on behalf of their usual window cleaner, making off with a small sum of cash.

The first incident was reported at Parkhead Gardens on Friday, followed by three in Chesser Grove, Redhall Crescent and Inglis Green Road on Monday.

The suspect is described as white with a slim to medium build and aged between 30 and 50-years-old. He was wearing a dark beanie or woollen hat, with a dark jacket and blue jeans.

A police spokesperson said: "We would urge everyone to be aware of this scam, and question anyone who arrives on your doorstep and demands money.

"Any time an unsolicited caller arrives at the door, people should ask for official identification. It's important to take the time to scrutinise the identification, and if there are still concerns do not let them over the threshold, or call the organisation they represent to verify their identity. This alone can sometimes prove to be enough of a deterrent for the criminal.

"The basic advice when it comes to bogus callers is that if you're not expecting a call, don't answer it. If you think a caller is bogus, or you feel threatened or unsafe, please contact police immediately."
