Concern over strategy for homelessness

Concerns have been raised about Edinburgh's strategy for preventing homelessness.

The city council's draft commissioning plan for advice, support and accommodation services to prevent homelessness was put out to consultation in May.

It says that it will "guide spend of an annual budget of 57 million and will result in significant changes to future service delivery as the council seeks to achieve more with less money".

But Labour councillor Angela Blacklock has lodged a motion for next week's health, social care and housing committee expressing her concerns that "equalities legislation has not been taken into account in the framing of this commissioning plan", especially regarding vulnerable women and adults with learning disabilities.

She is calling for a comprehensive equalities impact assessment of the "potentially flawed" consultation.
