Community News: Zoo vets offer work insight

VISITORS to Edinburgh Zoo next month can join veterinary staff for a closer look at their involvement with the animals over the past year.

The Vets Talk, which is suitable for over-14s only, will take place on February 3, from 7.30pm to 9pm.

A TALK on Arthur Miller's play A View From The Bridge will take place later this month.

The event, which will discuss the story of the family of a dock worker in post-war New York, will be held at the Lyceum Theatre on January 18, from 6pm to 7pm.

The play runs from January 14 to February 12.

Shed pounds in weight course

A 12-WEEK weight loss course will begin in Musselburgh on January 11.

The Arriba! Weight Loss Challenge offers nutrition classes and cash prizes for those who lose the greatest percentage of their body weight. Classes begin at 6.30pm at The Store Club in North High Street.

Bring a touch of Bollywood to your vows

A BOLLYWOOD wedding show will be held at the Sheraton Grand Hotel on Lothian Road on Sunday, January 16.

The event, which runs from 11am to 7pm with free entry, includes a range of exhibitors tailored to Asian weddings, including catering, photography, bridalwear and groomswear, including kilts or traditional sherwanis.

Bollywood dancers will also be on show, as well as free food samples.

Entry deadline extended for inventor contest

INVENTORS are being urged to come out of the development labs - or garden sheds - and enter the national John Logie Baird Awards, after the deadline for entries was extended until January 10.

Budding innovators now have another chance to win 10,000 worth of product and marketing support. Entries are open for the awards with categories including Young Innovator, Knowledge Transfer Champion, Impact Through Innovation, Early Stage Impact Through Innovation and Entrepreneurial Spirit.

Clubbers turn DJ with the joy of text

A CLUB night is being launched this month offering revellers the chance to turn DJ by selecting tunes via text message.

The interactive event, dubbed Shanghai Super Sunday, is hosted in Le Monde Hotel on George Street and is billed as a first for the city.

Opening night is January 16, and club-goers can expect to see Hollyoaks star Rob Norbury, who plays Riley Costello, making an appearance.

A spokesman for the event said: "You create the night of music that you want to hear."
