Community News: Yes stars set for concert at Playhouse

PROG rock legends Rick Wakeman and Jon Anderson are to perform a special gig at the city's Playhouse theatre on November 6.

The Yes stars will play classic tracks mixed with their own material, and treat fans to anecdotes from the band's glory days.

The show is part of a 20-date month-long tour which began in Cambridge on October 9 and ends in Manchester on November 11.

Jon Anderson said: "It will be a fun show for us, and the peeps who come will have a great time."

ESPC roadshow to give advice about property

The Edinburgh Solicitors Property Centre is launching a new property advice roadshow today.

The roadshow, which is on the ERI main concourse from 11am to 3pm today, offers free advice from legal and financial experts on issues related to owning or renting property. It is aimed at staff, but also open to patients or visitors. ESPC hopes to provide similar roadshows at other workplaces across the Lothians.

Hotelier on winning team

A hotelier from the Capital was on the winning team for the Duke of Edinburgh Award's Reach for the Peaks Challenge.

David Booton from Norton House Hotel & Spa joined the Hand Picked Hotels team on the 25-mile challenge, and raised 1500 for the youth charity.

Jet forecourt in 250 pledge

Jet's Barclay Place forecourt in Bruntsfield has pledged 250 to the 'Spirit of South Edinburgh' community fund to support worthy local causes.

Kamran Sohail, forecourt operator, said: "250 could help boost efforts for a community garden, a day trip for underprivileged children or a wildlife project."

Get your teeth into workshop

A vampire workshop is to be held at Corstorphine Library on October 28.

Author and illustrator of the Ralph books, Corinne Davies and El Ashfield, will be at the library between 3pm and 5.30pm for the event, to include crafts and face painting - fancy dress welcome.

Capital hairdresser among top UK colourists

A CITY hairdresser has been named as one of the UK's best hair colourists.

Colin McAndrew, of Medusa Hairdressing on Bread Street, recently won the silver award in the colour category at the annual Wella Professionals Trend Vision Award UK Final.

He impressed the judges with his interpretation of Midnight Stage, one of four fashion-led hair trends as created by Wella Professionals.

Mr McAndrew competed against 35 of the country's most talented hairdressers in the final.
