Community News: Warning over care home paperwork

PEOPLE who are moving into a care home need to make sure they check the paperwork carefully, a city lawyer has warned.

Law firm Gibson Kerr has warned that failing to scrutinise documents closely could put themselves or loved ones in jeopardy,

Scott Rasmusen, partner at Gibson Kerr, said: "It may only be a routine form that they're being asked to fill out, but there may be some fine print that could cause a lot of problems and heartache further down the line."

Landmark report delivered as midwives meet

MORE than 200 midwifery experts from all over the UK were set to gather today at a conference in Our Dynamic Earth which coincides with the publication of a landmark report on midwifery.

Midwifery 2020 - Delivering expectations is the culmination of the Midwifery 2020 programme, a UK-wide collaboration which focused on how midwives and midwifery can make the greatest contributions to the health and wellbeing of women, babies and families around the UK.

Novelist booked in for visit

Author of The Other Boleyn Girl, Philippa Gregory, will appear at St George's West in Shandwick Place on September 14. Tickets cost 5, redeemable against the book, and are available from organisers The Edinburgh Bookshop in Bruntsfield Place, or on 0131-447 1917.

Energy group conference

THE Edinburgh Community Energy Cooperative will hold a conference at St George's West Church on Saturday.

The conference, which runs from 10am until 1.45pm, offers the chance to hear updates on the projects of the Cooperative, which helps use renewable energy to combat climate change.

Fun in store at open day

There will be a family fun day at Tesco in Colinton Mains Drive on Sunday.

The day, which runs from 11am to 4.30pm, will feature musicians, face painting and free food samples from producers including Cosmo Pizzas.

There will also be information on volunteering opportunities.

Library to set poetry events in motion

SOUTH Queensferry Library is gearing up to celebrate Poetry Month.

The event begins on Monday with the chance to meet Ryan Van Winkle, reader in residence at the Scottish Poetry Library.

On September 27, Nothing But the Poem will offer a relaxed discussion of poems, on October 13 there will be a poetry afternoon for children, and an evening reading. For details see talesofonecity.wordpress.com.
