Community news: Radio station for Ramadan hits airwaves

A TEMPORARY radio station is broadcasting the Capital during Ramadan.

Radio Ramadan run by volunteers features programmes on aspects of the Muslim faith, as well as children's shows, cookery and health programmes., and discussions on current affairs.

Masood Malik of the Pakistan Society will appeal for donations to help victims of the floods in the country.

Jewellers set to sparkle with facelift

PRINCES Street jewellers Fraser Hart is set to get a facelift.

The jewellers, which dramatically changed the appearance of the unit at the corner of Hanover Street by cladding it in black marble when it took over from Salisbury's in 2001, has applied for permission to install a new shopfront and carry out internal alterations.

The company also wants to fit new signage and a fabric retractable awning.

Screenwriter to talk at event

Screenwriter Paul Laverty will give a free talk at the Edinburgh College of Art at 6pm September 23.

Chute in to hear singing ace

SINGER Daisy Chute will perform as part of jazz group Camerata Ritmata at Brunton Theatre in Musselburgh tonight.

Visitor attraction secures lease extension

A LEASE extension to The Real Mary King's Close visitor attraction has been secured by The Continuum Group.

It means the company will continue to operate the popular attraction until at least 2028.

Continuum first opened The Real Mary King's Close in Spring 2003 and the original lease was to run until 2013.

But following negotiations with the city council, this has now been extended for a further 15 years.
