Community News: Pick up a Penguin at Northern Rock

Edinburgh branches will be stocked with special editions of classics including Moby Dick and the Thirty Nine Steps. Each book will feature the Penguin logo alongside the Northern Rock brand.

Anthony Mooney, marketing director at Northern Rock said: "The Penguin book share scheme is a great way to get people talking about our brand."

College wins award for use of technology

sStevenson College has won an award for its innovative approach to technology.

The college picked up the award at the Scottish e-Assessment awards 2010.

Lecturer Justin Sales said: "I am so pleased to have won this award; using ipadio with my students has increased both the quantity and quality of feedback I'm able to offer.

"It is very effective in helping students learn a new language."

Bring your laptop and join free wifi workers

Freelance or creative workers will have the chance to gather together at a series of venues around the Capital today and tomorrow.

The Edinburgh Jelly Trail is inviting individuals to bring a laptop or notebook and go to work at the same time in nominated places, all offering free wifi.

Venues include Centotre in George Street from 10am to 11am tomorrow and Cuthbert's Coffee in Fountainbridge from 11.30am to 1.30pm.

School to hold coffee morning

KIRKLISTON Primary School is holding a coffee morning to raise money for school events on Saturday.

It will include home baking, second-hand books, a tombola, lucky dips, games and children's crafts from 10am. Entry is 1 for adults and 50p for children.

Extra flight to Bristol added

EasyJet has announced that it will increase capacity on its popular Bristol-Edinburgh route by adding a fourth daily flight from November.The additional frequency responds to demand from business passengers for more flexibility, as well as improving access to Bristol for Scottish visitors.

Ambassador visits Botanics

THE Nepalese ambassador to the UK has paid a visit to the city's Botanic Gardens.

Dr Suresh Chalise inaugurated a restored commemorative plaque and planted a tree in a new area of the gardens designated for promotion of Nepalese biodiversity and conservation.
